The Heroes & The Regrets

Investing in a designer handbag is a deeply personal decision—it’s about functionality, aesthetic love, and sometimes, a bit of emotional weight. I’ve never been an impulse buyer; I like to sit with a decision for months. Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on my closet to share the bags I truly use and the ones that, sadly, collect dust.

The Everyday Heroes

These are the bags I reach for time and again, the workhorses of my collection.

  • Prada Re-Edition 2005: This bag wins for pure functionality. It converts from crossbody to shoulder bag to clutch, and the detachable coin purse is perfect for cards. The saffiano leather is incredibly durable and stays pristine, making it a year-round staple.
  • Coach Pillow Tabby 18: Proof that “designer” doesn’t have to mean “exorbitant.” Coach has had a major glow-up. This small, pillow-soft bag is my summer go-to. It fits just my phone, a lip balm, and a card, which is often all I need. It’s a trendy shape in a classic color, making it a perfect, accessible addition.

The Lesson Learners

Not every purchase is a home run, and that’s okay. These bags taught me valuable lessons.

  • YSL Le 5 à 7: Aesthetically, it’s a stunning 90s-inspired hobo bag. However, its lack of a secure closure (just a thin strap) makes it impractical for me as an everyday bag. I now reserve it for specific evenings out.
  • Gucci GG Marmont: I bought this at the height of its influencer craze, which was my first mistake. While functional, the chevron pattern now feels a bit dated to me. It taught me to prioritize timelessness over temporary trendiness.

What’s On My Wishlist Now

My current mindset is all about versatile, timeless pieces. I’ve had my eye on the YSL Cassandra Mini Top Handle Bag for its elegant shape and the fact it converts from top-handle to crossbody. I’m also drawn to the simple sophistication of the Jacquemus Le Grand Bambino.
